On November 9th, the night after Donald Trump’s upset election win, approximately 6,000 people, potentially more, gathered at the Boston Commons. Protesters, who grew in numbers from an initial speak-out by the pavilion to a march in the streets, were peaceful but passionate. The crowd was inclusive, diverse in all manners of the term, and clear that Trump is “not my president.” Cops lingered in large groups along the march route, with few interactions with protesters. The speak-out was organized by the Boston branch of Socialist Alternative (SA), who is working to build a mass movement of disenfranchised voters. On the SA website it states that “We believe the Republicans and Democrats are both parties of big business, and we are campaigning to build an independent, alternative party of workers and young people to fight for the interests of the millions, not the millionaires.” Here is some footage of the night after Donald Trump was elected:
