Take a break from your midterms this weekend and do something fun! Below is a list of activities happening on Northeastern’s campus and around Boston.
13th Annual Underwear Run
9 p.m. – 12 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19
Northeastern’s long-awaited event is finally around the corner: it’s time to strip down to your underwear and run through Boston with your fellow Huskies this Friday, Oct. 19! The Underwear Run is a tradition that was started by Story Wibby, a mechanical engineering major who graduated from Northeastern in 2010. Wibby’s legacy lives on to this day, as the event is cherished and participated in by hundreds of students each year. The Underwear Run is essentially what it sounds like: students run through Northeastern’s surrounding areas as well as through the Prudential Center in their underwear. However, due to the number of runners increasing each year, Boston Police have requested that participants do not enter the Prudential Center to avoid damage, which has occurred in the past. Instead, the second loop of the run has been altered and will finish by running down Hemenway Street. The Underwear Run usually falls on the Friday night of parents weekend, but the organizers of the event have decided to move the event up one week. DJ Antrik will once again be hosting the event. Check out the event’s Facebook page for more information.
MFA Late Nites
8 p.m. – 2 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19
The MFA is starting a new season of Late Nites, an after-hours hang-out that connects visitors to art, culture, and the Boston community happening this Friday, Oct. 19. The kick-off event will feature an array of late-night programs in partnership with local organizations, artists and more. Guests can explore the galleries and engage in art making. There will also be food, drinks, music, and dancing. Some of the event’s highlights include a multidisciplinary sound, sculpture, and movement installation by the SOUND which explores the perspectives of young adult immigrants attending the Boston International Newcomers Academy. There will also be various open-mic sessions, including one presented by Subcontinental Drift Boston, which is meant to focus on the South Asian creative community through a special program of music, poetry, and dance. Guests of all ages are welcome. Tickets can be purchased through the event’s Facebook page.
54th Head of the Charles Regatta
7:45 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20 – 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21
Started in 1965, the Head of the Charles Regatta has become the world’s largest two-day rowing event. The regatta, which was originally established by members of the Cambridge Boat Club, has grown to feature more than 11,000 athletes from around the world. They compete in over 60 different events along the Charles River. The regatta is a head race with a rolling start, meaning that crews race each other against the clock. The boat with the fastest time in their race is the winner. The starting line is at the Boston University DeWolfe Boathouse, and the finish line is near Christian A. Herter Park, making the regatta over 4,800 meters long. Races begin at 7:45 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. They are scheduled to end by 5 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. If you want to support your Huskies, check here for Northeastern’s team schedules. More information on the event, including directions to get there, can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
