By now you’ve surely heard of the infamous Levain Bakery that has landed in Boston. If you haven’t, then be sure to put this in your Google Maps the next time you’re out exploring Boston! Countless posts on social media as well as previews from the bakers themselves got Boston residents excited for what was to come. This set the stage for long lines on opening day. Before even getting into the store, I had to wait in line with many others. As we waited we could smell the air from the store traveling in our direction. One thing to definitely note for your trip to this bakery is to come hungry since these aren’t pastries you want to pass up! The store itself is quite small, giving that very homey and comfortable environment we all embrace when we eat warm desserts. The interior had soft colored walls, providing a minimalistic yet fulfilling aura. As I neared the cash register, my stomach craved all the baked goods that were laid out in front of me. From classic chocolate chip cookies, to banana chocolate chip loaves, and a various assortment of baguettes, Levain has plenty to choose from. Of course, I had to try the legendary cookies as endless people raved about them. Now we all know how each bakery tries to make the “perfect” cookie for us to run to buy. But Levain’s cookies stood out; they were hearty, crisp on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. The “two chip chocolate chip” cookies beat all of the past cookies I’ve ever had before. This one oozed chocolate from the inside as I broke it apart. To balance out the sweetness, I also tried the oatmeal cranberry scone which I expected to be a burst of citrus and put me into a fall season mood. It perfectly matched my expectations as well.
Overall, I’d rate my experience at Levain Bakery a 9/10, only for the long wait I had to endure. But honestly, the wait was worth it! So if you want to switch up your usual dessert route or take a cheat day, I highly suggest checking out this place on Newbury Street, only a 15 minute train ride or walk from main campus.
