With fall at its peak right now, it’s the perfect time to make the most of it before it gets too cold. If you hate the chilly weather like me, these few months are the best time to explore and enjoy the outdoors before you constantly want to sit at home with the heater on high. Here’s a list of fun things to do around the city while the weather lasts.

  1. Picnic at Boston Commons

The perfect activity to do alone or with friends! Grab a blanket and snacks and go over to the Boston Public Garden for a picnic. Since the fall colors are slowly starting to show, the view is beautiful. There are several take-out restaurants close by to get food from as well.

  1. Kayaking on the Charles River

Kayaking on the Charles River is a great way to enjoy the sunny, cool weather and see the beautiful view of the Boston skyline. It’s also one of the last chances to be out on the river before it gets too cold! You can kayak through the vibrant fall colors to get a close-up view of the Harvard Bridge, making the whole experience even more special.

  1. Bluebiking around the city

Bluebiking around the city is a fun way to explore Boston before the cold comes. You can ride around the Charles River, through Beacon Hill or even discover some new spots you’ve never come across before. Rent a bike at a very affordable price from the many stops located all over the city. There are electric and regular bikes available at your convenience! I love biking with my friends over the weekend and discovering new spots in the city.

  1. Walk through the Freedom Trail

The Freedom Trail is a great way to explore Boston if you’re an international student, or are curious to learn more about the city’s history. It’s a 2.5-mile path that takes you through 16 historic sites, including the Massachusetts State House, Paul Revere’s House and the Old North Church. It’s a perfect mix of history, sightseeing and optimizing the weather!

  1. Beach Day

Visiting the beach with a few friends is the perfect way to chill outdoors. The Revere Beach and Nahant Beach are two good options that are close by, and a quick escape from the city. It’s also a perfect way to relax after midterms and enjoy the weather before it gets too cold. Preferably go in the afternoon before it gets too windy. Although, even if it’s too chilly to swim, you can still enjoy the beach by bringing a picnic, reading a book, and enjoying the views!

  1. Outdoor Market: Quincy Market

One of the best ways to enjoy the weather right now is by exploring outdoor markets. My favorite one is Quincy Market. There’s always some street show going on outside, which makes it super lively. Inside, you’ll find countless food options from chocolate-covered strawberries, to pizzas, to boba, to steak! There are also a few market stalls where you can buy cute trinkets like jewelry, t-shirts, sunglasses and more. They also have a photo booth! Quincy Market is surrounded by a variety of shops too which is easily accessible after visiting the market.

Make the most of Boston’s beautiful weather while you still can! It is the best time to take advantage of the weather now and enjoy Boston before the cold sets in. Soon we will all be dreading the cold weather, snow and daylight savings time while looking for indoor activities to enjoy until next summer! There are plenty of fun things to look forward to and several other activities you could just come across by simply walking around the city.
