It comes as no surprise that Boston is a notoriously amazing city for the transformation of orange leaves and pumpkin flavored treats. Coming in at No. 4 in Forbes’ magazine for top fall cities in the world, Boston holds a special place in the heart of anyone who loves the fall season.

While you’re hiking in Blue Hills or shopping in the city, you can see and discover the beauty of the trees throughout almost the entirety of the season. In addition to these beautiful aspects of nature, Boston and its surrounding towns hold many festivals, markets and other exciting things to do all season long.

Whether you’re new to Boston or you frequent Salem every Halloween, some 2024 markers to hit include the infamous Boston Lights at the Franklin zoo, Ghosts and Gravestone walking trails and tours, pumpkin treats that line the halls of Quincy Market and obviously, Salem. Visiting Salem any time during the month of October transports you from the real world and straight into “Halloween Town. It is truly a memorable experience easily accessible by train, but do not forget to buy your ticket!

Running through Oct. 20 just south of Boston, you can also find King Richard’s Faire — a realistic and fun renaissance festival celebrating the season with cider and festivals. Additionally, Hanson’s Farm is a fun autumn experience for hayrides, caramel apples and a thrilling corn maze.

If you have not hit all the points on this list, I would definitely suggest you do so, however, if you’re looking for a change in your fall itinerary, then these are the spots for you. First, Alex’s Cider Donut map, which can be found on Instagram, @ciderdonuteur, maps the best places surrounding Boston for apple cider donuts. Yum!

Inside the city limits, local food vendors at SOWA market sell fall treats and hard ciders every Sunday. The Boston Book festival is a nice opportunity to find a lovely fall book, curl up with a pumpkin spice latte and relax under the vibrant orange trees. For an immersive halloween experience and thrill, visit Boston Wicked Hauntfest and Fright Kingdom in southern New Hampshire.

These fall activities will leave your schedules booked for the upcoming months, and your camera rolls full. These experiences are haunting and to die for … no pun intended.
