Not only does coffee taste great, but it also helps students get through school, socialize with others, and warm up during the winter. Luckily, there are plenty of great coffee shops nearby that give Northeastern University students their necessary caffeine boost and a chance to unwind in a new environment.
1. Dunkin’
Dunkin’ offers delicious coffee and baked goods at four local, easily-accessible locations. Two of these locations can be found in Shillman Hall and Hayden Hall – which both accept dining dollars. The third is in Ruggles train station, and the final location is at 283 Huntington Avenue, a short 5-10 minute walk from campus. Dunkin’ has prices that are cheaper than many coffee chains, and a mobile ordering system that allows students to gain points that lead to free drinks. Dunkin’ is the perfect option for quick, on-the-go drinks before class.
2. Pavement Coffeehouse
Pavement Coffeehouse, located at 44 Gainsborough Street, is a well-known chain that offers many coffee and tea options along with delicious breakfast bagel sandwiches. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, with lots of recently reopened indoor seating for socializing or working. They even sell bags of their own coffee grounds for customers to take home and brew on their own. Additionally, they have a rewards account for frequent customers. However, this location can get crowded on weekend mornings.
3. Caffė Bene
Located at 333 Massachusetts Avenue, Caffė Bene is a cute, comfy, and intimate café that also offers great coffee options. They have a variety of uniquely flavored desserts to compliment your coffee, making it the perfect option for brunch. Students also receive a 10% discount. Unfortunately, their seating area is usually packed, so getting your order to-go is the safest choice.
4. Cafe Nero
Cafe Nero, located at 100 Huntington Avenue, is another excellent option for those looking for coffee before heading to class or for something to sip while getting assignments done. The plush armchairs and looming bookshelves create the perfect atmosphere for studying or doing other work. Cafe Nero also offers baked goods and sandwiches. Students are able to collect punches for every visit with a valid student ID, allowing you to get a free drink after only five purchases.
5. Starbucks
The Curry Student Center Starbucks location, which is the closest Starbucks for many students, offers signature hot and iced coffee drinks, baked goods, and refreshers. They take dining dollars and have a rewards system which allows customers to earn two stars for each dollar spent. However, these stars cannot be redeemed for any rewards, such as a free drink, at the campus location. Students can also order ahead here using the Boost app. Unfortunately, this location usually has a very long line, so if you’re planning on getting coffee before class, be sure to leave early.
