Spill Tab are two words that have no meaning to the average person. It’s the name for the tab that spilled drinks get put on at a bar, but mostly what employees use to give free drinks to friends. And so naturally, after Claire Chicha spent much of her time in LA working on her music career and experiencing a lot of nightlife, she decided to name herself Spill Tab. The rest has been history, as she just went on her first solo tour this summer, The Big Juicy Tour, with opening act Boyish.
As an up-and-coming indie/alternative artist, she adds all of her personality, culture, and quirks into her music. As a Korean-French singer and songwriter, her background influences her songs, some of which use French lyrics. In “Santé” or “Calvaire,” the rhythmic and beat quality is jaw-dropping, and true emotion can be felt despite audiences who may not know the meaning.
So far, Spill Tab has released two EPs and various singles. Her first EP is named “Oatmilk,” which she named because she is severely lactose intolerant. It includes both the French songs mentioned above, plus singles, such as “Name” and “Cotton Candy.” “Cotton Candy” is one of her top songs with over 14 million streams on Spotify. It includes her own ukulele samples mixed with deep bass drops that create a whirl of emotions when the chorus hits. It is all about love and the exploration of romance, and how our point of view can be cotton candy-tinted.
Spill Tab’s second EP is “Bonnie,” which has songs that are absolutely euphoric to listen to. “Pistolwhip” and “Indecisive” are fast-paced, with moments of strong instrumentals sharply interrupting lyrics, creating an insane tension in the song. It is very easy to break out in dance listening to these. But by far, the song “Grade A” is her best song. Featuring JAWNY, the song is upbeat, relatable, and makes the entire crowd go wild. It is about the young adult lifestyle and its tendency to get wrapped up in relationships and sex.
Currently, Spill Tab is working on several featured projects with artists such as Uneasy, Gus Dapperton, and Mac Wetha. Beyond music, she is a tattoo artist in training with amazing style. When performing certain songs on tour, she asks the audience emotionally-driven questions and opens the floor to a Q&A. She even plays unreleased songs, leaving fans excited for what’s to come. She hasn’t released any songs since the beginning of 2022, so fans are itching for what’s next.
I suggest you go check out Spill Tab and her opening act Boyish; you’re lucky I didn’t gatekeep them! She is playing at various music festivals this fall and in the future and is opening for Benne on her tour. She continues to write and produce new music, so keep an eye out for her latest releases, and potentially a full album soon.
