Whether you’re single, have a special someone or hoping to impress a special someone, chocolate is a must. Here are some great local spots to satisfy your sweet tooth this Valentine’s Day.
Beacon Hill Chocolates is cozy, romantic and worth every penny. With a large case filled with single chocolates, truffles and assortments, Beacon Hill has everything you need for either a Valentine’s Day celebration or a quick pick-me-up. Their variety is huge, ranging from classics like raspberry creme to lovable cappuccino. There’s something for everybody, and although the cheapest price for a chocolate is around $2.50, the quality is well worth it and will be sure to leave you and/or your loved one satisfied.
Eataly is known for its high-quality, imported products from all over the world, but most commonly from Italy. Because of the high quality, this makes their products quite expensive. They don’t have many Valentine’s Day decorative packages for their chocolates, but there are some. When you first walk in their entrance through the Prudential Center and walk past the coffee vendor on the left, you’ll see many bins filled with chocolates. Each flavor comes from Italy and is wrapped in a different color, with a variety of flavors to choose from to be able to create your own assortment. They do have beautifully decorated heart-shaped containers of pre-packaged chocolates from a company called Venci. It doesn’t have the traditional pink colors associated with Valentine’s Day, but it’s still a beautiful design.
There’s also cheaper packaged chocolates around the store, both imported and from the United States, that would be a good purchase if you’re looking for a single bag of chocolate. Eataly is a good place to treat that special someone with fancy chocolates you can pick and choose from, but if you’re on a budget, you might look elsewhere.
L.A. Burdick, known for their rich hot chocolate featured in my last article, also has assorted chocolates for any time of year. Their chocolates can be bought individually or as an assortment of chocolates and truffles packaged in a wooden box, which you can reuse to your pleasure. They have delicious flavors and cute shapes, like a mouse or a penguin. The drinking chocolate is a huge plus with L.A. Burdick too, as they have packaged drinking chocolate to make at home that comes in all sizes. Their chocolate also includes various fruit fillings, perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Also located in the Prudential Center, Läderach is most known for their large cases of multiple flavored chocolate bark that draws the attention of shoppers passing by their store window. They’ve updated their store and website to reflect the romantic holiday season. All of their usual packaging, bark and chocolate shapes are styled to Valentine’s Day hearts and colors. They have cute chocolate teddy bears, both in dark chocolate with caramel filling and white chocolate with raspberry filling. Läderach also offers small gift bags of assorted pralines. They have a bunch of heart-shaped boxes with assorted truffles and barks in them, and you can also create your own bag by picking out your favorite chocolates in their cases. They also have chocolate popcorn with caramel if you’re looking for something salty.
Läderach is probably the most romantic Valentine’s Day chocolate destination for your needs. Their prices may be upscaled as their chocolate mostly comes from Switzerland, but the high quality and large variety is worth it.
Sugarfina, also located in the Prudential Center just a couple stores down from Läderach, is a candy-oriented shop. If you or someone you know has a sweet tooth not just for chocolate, this is a great shop. Although the store isn’t filled to the brim with candy, there’s still plenty to choose from. They have multiple flavored gummy bears, cookie dough balls, covered almonds, caramels, mouth-watering sour belts and parisian chocolate boxes. They also have heart-shaped chocolate truffles in a plastic heart-shaped ornament. Their cookie dough balls come in different flavors too, like peppermint hot cocoa and Oreo. You can make your own candy box and pick your favorite flavors to package, saving some money in the process. Sugarfina is a great location with great prices — they even have a clearance section — and will be sure to fulfill all of your candy cravings.
