High-end fashion brand Dsquared2 celebrated its 30th anniversary in Milan during Fashion Week in February. Founded in 1995 by Canadian fashion designer twins Dean and Dan Caten, the brand is known for its bold and rebellious approach to fashion. The show highlighted Dsquared2’s innovative and creative approach to fashion, and they showcased their new men’s and women’s collections.
The show commenced with an energetic performance from Doechii. The Grammy-winning artist was recently named “Woman of the Year” by Billboard, and this show was an opportunity to continue spreading her passion for music and creativity.
She wore an eye-catching outfit — a t-shirt marked “icon-ique,” which captured the essence of the show. In addition to the shirt, she wore a fur jacket with a backpack full of dollar bills. Doechii walked to her own music, her opening song a remix of “NISSAN ALTIMA” from her latest album “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” She also performed her singles “Denial Is A River” and “Catfish.” Although most of her performance was done solo, she collaborated with JT on her song “Alter Ego.”
While the music performance was exhilarating, the main focus of the event was showcasing the latest fashion designs from Dsquared2. Both rising and established runway models including Alex Consani, Amelia Gray and Irina Shayk walked the runway. They filed out of vehicles donning feathers and worn denim, making for a captivating entrance onto the catwalk.
Consani wore an all black outfit: an extravagant cropped fur cloak, a pair of skinny leather pants, a black hat and sleek gloves. Her bold classic red lipstick contrasted with the pitch black outfit. Sticking with the fur theme was Shayk. The Russian supermodel wore a fur hat along with a long flowing black dress. Noami Campbell, nicknamed the “Black Panther” for her head-turning walks, wore a black bodysuit. Rounding out the show, Amelia Gray Hamlin wore a feathered catsuit, reminiscent of Cher’s iconic look from the Met Gala in the 1970s.
Dsquared2’s new collection also featured collaborations with labels such as Magliano and legendary rock band Kiss. Their collaboration fuses the brand’s visual identity while maintaining focus on self-expression and originality. The pair also worked with other young designers like Magliano and Vaquera, which further showcased the brand’s focus on innovation in clothing design. Dsquared2 also collaborated with Bettter, the partnerships highlighting the brand’s multifaceted creative direction.
The menswear collection was a combination of skin-tight clothing and more loosely fitting pieces. The 1930s inspired puffer coat and vest hit the runway, with many of the male models wearing rock style clothing, again in all black and leather. Jamaican-American supermodel Tyson Beckford exemplified this look in a leather getup. Fur items, like oversized coats, were also consistent in the men’s collection.
Campbell closed the show wearing a full bodysuit made of leather and knee-high boots, leaving her long, natural hair flow as she walked. She also wore a neutral smokey eye and bold makeup that accentuated her already sharp, striking features. The selection of the leather outfit resonates with Dsquared2’s edgy, rebellious image. Overall, the Dsquared2 30th anniversary runway show was a striking event enriched with unique approaches to fashion. It honored the legacy of the brand while collaborating with other labels.
