October has finally arrived, which means that it’s time to say goodbye to our swimsuits and hello to our halloween costumes. Boston is one of the best places to be in the fall and, before it is time to brave the winter months, we need to take advantage of these crisp autumn days. There are many exciting seasonal activities to take advantage of in the fall, but lest we forget that fall is also the season to do all of those last-minute warm weather activities before it gets too cold outside. From pumpkins to apple picking, this article has you covered.

Apple Picking

Not only is apple picking a festive fall activity, it’s also one that bears gifts. You will come home from the farm with a bunch of fresh fruit to share with friends, hoard for yourself, or turn into a delicious pastry like apple pie. Only a 15 minute drive from campus, the Allandale Farm is a great apple picking option.

Pumpkin Carving

Another great fall activity is pumpkin carving. Pick up a pumpkin at a local grocery store, like Whole Foods, and decorate it yourself or attend a proper pumpkin carving event for a fully festive experience. There are plenty of pumpkin carving events all around Boston, such as the Third Annual Pumpkin Carving at Lincoln Tavern on Monday, Oct. 22.

Picnic in Boston Common

Setting up a picnic in the Common is an easy way to take advantage of your free time as well as these final warm days. Curate a spread of fall foods and drinks (maybe cider or hot chocolate)  and set up in the sunshine, or relax in the grass as you watch the sun go down before going out for dinner.

Scary Movies

Another easy way to spend these fall days is a trip to the movies. What better way to get in the spooky spirit of the season than to watch a horror film? The Nun and Hell Fest are some current movie options. Head on over to the AMC Theatre in Fenway, recline, and get ready for a fright!

Head of the Charles

Whether you are an avid rowing fan or have no idea what’s going on, check out the Head of the Charles Saturday, Oct. 20 and experience the Regatta for a fun and entertaining day out with friends the perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and watch a famous sporting event at the same time.

Haunted Houses

If you’re looking for something slightly more scary than apple picking or pumpkin carving, another classic option for getting into the Halloween spirit is exploring a haunted house. Most haunted houses are a little bit outside of Boston, but are definitely worth the trip. Barrett’s Haunted Mansion has been voted one of the top 10 haunted houses in Boston and, if you are willing to make the 30 minute car journey, you’re in for a scare.

These are just a few options for you to consider this fall season, take advantage of them before winter rolls around and these events have come and gone!
