Beyond diversity in classes and student clubs, Northeastern offers a variety of intramural sports to its students and community. These recreational activities offer an opportunity for anyone to participate, whether that be for fun or as a way to stay fit. Participants can decide between joining men’s, women’s, or co-recreational sports teams that operate throughout the calendar school year. Furthermore, each team is regulated and led by student managers to ensure an inclusive and welcoming environment. Intramural sports are a great way to socialize and find a community within campus since it is a unique way to experience a new hobby with friends.

Northeastern offers intramural sports teams for both the fall and spring semesters as well as during summer class sessions. In the fall there is ice hockey, broomball, basketball, volleyball, cornhole, wiffle ball, spikeball, kanjam, soccer, dodgeball, and flag football. In later seasons, floor hockey becomes available as an additional recreational sport for students to join. During summer 1 and 2, there is soccer, flag football, wiffle ball, cornhole, volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, kanjam, dodgeball, and spikeball open for selection. Registration for these sports teams are offered at the beginning of each semester and run on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the benefit is that there are no additional costs of joining a team or playing more than one intramural sport. Depending on what the sport is, the teams can hold games and practices at locations such as Huntington Yard, Marino Center, Cabot Cage, Matthews Arena, and Willis Court. Intramural games are typically scheduled during the weekday from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. and from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. on weekends. At the end of each intramural season, there is a single elimination tournament that decides the term’s intramural champion.
