If you go to Northeastern, then you know that hockey is huge here. Both the men’s and women’s teams have put up a great fight and have made our school very proud this season. Let’s recap some of the best moments of the 2022-2023 ice hockey season.

Most prominently, both teams brought home a clean sweep win in the Beanpot championship. The men’s ice hockey team beat Harvard in overtime after Gunnarwolfe Fontaine scored two goals and Devon Levi came up with 32 saves. The women’s ice hockey team also brought home the win with a 2-1 victory over Boston College with goals coming from Maureen Murphy and Mia Brown. It was a great week to be a husky!

Throughout the rest of the season, the men’s team did well with an overall record of 17-13-5. During the season, there were some thrilling games that kept fans and players on the edge of their seats. They started the season strong with a clean sweep against Vermont. Then on Oct.18 after a back-and-forth game against Boston College, the Huskies took the Eagles to overtime and ended up winning 2-1 in a shootout. The team’s hard work eventually allowed them to move on to the Hockey East Quarterfinal. Unfortunately, they lost 2-1 in overtime against Providence on March 11.

The women’s team overall record for this season was a stunning 34-3-1. They started off the season with five straight wins in the Hockey East. In addition, only three games were brought to overtime this season, but our Huskies came out on top in all three of them. To add to the excitement, they won the Hockey East tournament championship 4-1 against Providence on March 4, making it the sixth straight Hockey East tournament championship win for the women’s hockey team. They moved on to the NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Ice Hockey Championship where they beat Yale 4-1 but came up short against the number one seed, Ohio State, losing 3-0.

As a whole, this has been a thrilling year for Northeastern’s ice hockey program. With each season, both teams look to put their best talent out on the ice, and it is clear they are training and preparing well for game days. With the conclusion of this season, they look to get ready for next year. How do you think our huskies are going to perform on the ice next season?
